New Investor Sun Microsystems Joins Flybridge Capital Partners and RBC Venture Partners in Investment in Analytic Data Warehouse Software Vendor
Toronto, Canada – September 15, 2008 – Infobright Inc., a technology leader in analytic data warehousing, today announced it has secured a (USD) $10 million Series C round of investment by Flybridge Capital Partners, RBC Venture Partners, and Sun Microsystems, Inc (NASDAQ: JAVA). The capital infusion will be used largely to fuel the growth of the new http://www.infobright.org open source community and the Infobright Community Edition (ICE) open source data warehouse (see related announcement here), further distinguishing Infobright from others in the market. While the funding marks Sun Microsystems’ first financial investment in Infobright, the two companies have an existing sales relationship around Sun’s MySQL(TM) open source database and Infobright’s data warehouse engine.
In conjunction with today’s investment, Sun and Infobright plan to enhance their collaboration on joint sales and marketing. RBC and Flybridge led the previous funding rounds, and today’s re-investment demonstrates their on-going commitment to Infobright’s leadership in delivering the world’s most innovative analytic data warehouse solutions to companies of all sizes. “Our investors underscore Infobright’s multi-pronged approach to building one of the top open source communities for data warehousing,” said Miriam Tuerk, president and CEO of Infobright. “They represent a diverse group, including the venture arm of RBC, one of our first customers; Flybridge, a highly respected venture capital firm; and Sun, a leader in the open source community. Their ongoing support is critical to building momentum and staying power, and is already proving invaluable in enabling us to reinvent how companies meet the challenge of extracting valuable insight from the massive volumes of real time and historic data.” "Sun applauds Infobright’s new initiative to leverage the open source model to create a radically simple, low-cost analytic database,” said Marten Mickos, senior vice president, Database Group, Sun Microsystems. “We are seeing enterprise customer demand for this type of data warehouse solution. We are excited to extend our relationship with Infobright to pursue this opportunity.”
