Infobright Details Knowledge Grid Architecture at SIGMOD 2009
Jun 22, 2009
Infobright's Chief Scientist and VP of Engineering Team Up to Reveal How Company's Analytic Database Achieves High Performance and Scalability without Specialized Hardware or Tuning
Toronto, Ontario - June 22, 2009 - Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, today announced its participation in this year's Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Management of Data (SIGMOD)/PODS Conference. Infobright's Chief Scientist Dominik Slezak and Vice President of Engineering Victoria Eastwood will present "Data Warehouse Technology by Infobright," an exploration of Infobright's Knowledge Grid technology and future plans. The ACM SIGMOD/PODS Conference 2009 will be held at the Westin Hotel in Providence, R.I., June 29 through July 2. Slezak and Eastwood will participate in "Industrial Session 1: Data Warehousing" on Tuesday, June 30, 10:30 a.m. -
noon.
The ACM SIGMOD/PODS conference is a leading international forum at which database researchers, practitioners, developers and users explore cutting-edge ideas and results, and exchange techniques, tools and experiences.
Infobright Community Edition (ICE, open source) and Infobright Enterprise Edition (IEE, commercial license) use a number of mechanisms to offer high performance and high scalability for running analytic queries against terabytes of data-without the need for specialized hardware or manual tuning. Slezak and Eastwood will detail these mechanisms, including the Infobright Knowledge Grid, a layer of mediation between the query engine and the data, which uses the mathematical concept of "rough sets" to minimize data access and optimize query performance.
"Other data warehouses require a complex, expensive hardware infrastructure to support high performance and scalability, but Infobright scales to more than 50 terabytes of data using a single off-the-shelf server," said Slezak. "Our Knowledge Grid architecture, combined with our column-oriented database, delivers extremely fast response to complex queries without creating indexes or tuning the database. I look forward to sharing this architecture with the SIGMOD attendees and discussing future applications of our technology."

A New Approach
The Analytic Data Warehouse
Traditional data warehouse products put a tremendous burden on IT in order to create and maintain an environment that will allow users to query against large volumes of data.
