Leading Online Poker Game Developer Uses Infobright Enterprise Edition to
Manage Data Generated During Thousands of Poker Rounds Played

    Toronto, Ontario – July 7, 2009
    – Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, today announced that bwin Games AB, a leader in the development of digital poker products, has deployed Infobright Enterprise Edition (IEE) to manage the increasing volume of data generated by its online poker business. IEE is enabling bwin Games to store and quickly mine terabytes of data, without putting a heavy burden on the company’s hardware or administrative resources.

Part of the bwin Group, bwin Games develops and maintains the software for one of the world’s largest poker networks, Ongame Network. bwin handles up to 45,000 concurrent poker players, with more than 10 million poker hands per day, over 70,000 deposits and withdrawals processed daily, as well as up to 6,000 financial transactions per second. As the amount of data generated by several million registered customers in over 25 core markets has increased, bwin Games required a cost-effective way to keep up with storage and processing demands.

“IEE’s compression capabilities are enabling us to store far more information than we could before, and we can run intensive queries in minutes instead of days ― all with minimal set-up and administration needed,” said Carl Klingberg, managing director of bwin Games AB. “We honestly didn’t think this level of performance was possible, especially at such a reasonable price point. Infobright has delivered beyond our expectations.”

With IEE in place, bwin Games is able to store up to a year of poker data, process more than half a gigabyte of information per day, and run detailed, real-time queries that enable the company to make quicker, well-informed business decisions. The Infobright solution, which was successfully deployed at bwin Games in only a few hours, seamlessly integrates with the company’s MySQL database from Sun Microsystems. Based on the results seen to date, bwin Games is currently considering extending its use of IEE to support other data management requirements within the organization.

“Traditional, hardware-intensive data warehouse solutions are not serving the needs of companies like bwin Games,” said Miriam Tuerk, chief executive officer of Infobright. “Data volumes are increasing exponentially, and demands for real-time intelligence call for a more efficient and simple approach that’s not going to break the bank. We’re pleased that bwin Games’ IEE deployment is meeting both their cost and performance requirements.”
