IBM and the Smarter Planet
I am increasingly interested in the role of machine-generated data in our world. In particular, we are beginning to see machines interacting with machines, which is so cool. The world of the semantic web is emerging and I think the forward-thinking ideas today will become, faster than most would imagine, the reality of tomorrow. There are a number of companies doing a very nice job exploring these systems of systems. Some are better than others, but I have to say, I am quite intrigued by the "Smarter Planet" initiative at IBM. They tell this story quite well on a YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfEbMV295Kk). There is nothing really specific to IBM here. The evolving world will continue to evolve for everyone. Clearly IBM is intending to be a key player in this, and I commend them for the approach they are taking.
At Infobright, we agree. The world will move in this direction, and our contribution is probably obvious. We love machine-generated data. That's what we do. When machines generate information to be consumed by other machines, the demand for what we specifically, and in many ways, uniquely do goes up. That makes us, our customers, and our partners happy.
The evolving world is a tide that will lift many ships. There will be many organizations participating and enabling the changes we will see. The funny thing is that when your ship is fairly small, it's really hard to miss the rising tide.
Regards,
Don
